Best Spicy Foods to Have on International Hot and Spicy Food Day!

Do you ever need an excuse to eat hot and spicy food? On January 16th you don’t, because it’s International Hot and Spicy Food Day. It’s a fun, little national day to celebrate how much people love to eat food that makes their mouths water with that burning sensation. Kevin’s Bar & Restaurant has several spicy dishes on our menu that anyone wanting to add some heat to their day can try out!

History of Spicy Foods

We have been eating spicy foods for thousands of years. An example are chilies, which is one of the oldest spicy foods and one of the earliest foods to come out of the invention of agriculture back in 400 B.C. For hundreds of years, countries and people would travel the globe to trade spices for medicines, healing tonics, and most importantly, to make spicy foods.

Spicy foods were and still are more than just meat covered in spices. We have spicy fried foods, spicy seafood, and spicy foods where the spice is a flavorsome liquid. If you haven’t had the chance to try foods like that, then Kevin’s Bar & Restaurant is the perfect place to stop by.

What Spicy Foods Should You Try?

Fried Calamari

Fried calamari itself isn’t spicy, it’s the sweet and spicy tomato sauce we pair it with. This starter is the perfect choice to wet your tongue for a spicy entree. It’s fried squid, a special side dish that is so unlike anything else you’ll ever have. It’s been a popular side dish for decades since it first blew up in New York City around 1975.

It’s one of the most popular kinds of seafood around the world. To make it a special occasion when you order it at Kevin’s, we decided to add a little bit of spice and add tomato and bell pepper sauce to it. It’s the perfect way to start off a meal on International Hot and Spicy Foods Day.

Shrimp & Scallop Sambuca

Shrimp and scallops are some of the most popular and best shellfish to eat on the planet. They’re known for being chewy, juicy, and healthy, which all help to elevate whatever you pair them with, but not spicy.

We decided to change that by adding sambuca sauce. This delicious wine sauce adds hot spiciness to otherwise non-spicy shellfish, and their juiciness makes the spice explode in your mouth. If you wanted something new to try for International Hot and Spicy Foods Day, this is it.

Indonesian Peanut Chicken

If you’re not a seafood lover and want something spicy, Kevin’s offers an exotic chicken dish. This dish is made with many different ingredients between spices and sauces that make it spicy. Yet, the way it’s combined together doesn’t make it unfathomably so. It’s a dish that’s well-balanced in taste.

And if it’s too spicy for you, it comes with rice and seasonal vegetables. If it’s not spicy enough, you can also try the curry cabbage slaw that will be sure to amplify the dish’s spiciness.
